Forked Up

So, we had heard much about the documentary 'ForksOverKnives'. Our buddy Melanie saw it before us and told us how good it was. Then my co-worker Rebecca saw it, and again told me how awesome it was, and that we needed to see it ASAP.

And about two and a half weeks ago we did just that. Wow. Not only was it as great and informative as everyone said. Even though we have been vegan for the last 10 years, it is really easy to slip into bad habits when your busy. You can still eat lots of processed bad for you foods that are vegan.

The research in the doc was nuts. The China Study is pretty hard to argue with. I really want everyone to see it and to make changes to the way they eat. We did. Simple right? Fruit, vegetables, and whole grains.

We still will have treats when we want. It was just our birthday season, and ate lots of naughty things, but we were pumped to get back to eating properly.

Please do yourself and your loved ones a favor, and watch this film. Even changing a bit now and maybe a bit later, it all helps.

Fab Fabbie-ness

It is the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the full on madness of holiday hoopla. It's the aftermath. Getting your crap together, putting new treasures away, throwing the old crap out. Time to assess, weigh, and measure.

So, where is the wonderful in all this mess? Shopping for fabric of course! I've been shopping on Etsy all day and my eyes must look like googley-eyes. Think cookie monster, but not so blue.

So, here is a selection of fabrics that I will be getting my mitts on soon.

I shopped at Fabricpaloosa

Holiday Wrap Up

Thursday, January 5, 2012

Solstice, with a Christian Dior sticker. She wore it most of the day.

The holidays are such BIG thing. The entire month of December is always chaotic, full of demands that are different than at any other time of the year. It's exhausting, so we respond in the best way we can think of - we take vacation time! That's right, no banking for weeks on end and gobs of time to stay at home with the puddins. HEAVEN!
We have been best friends, living together for so long now that we really are family, complete with our own holiday traditions. We celebrate the Winter Solstice, which falls a few days earlier than Christmas, but the actual ways we celebrate are pretty much the same. We put up a tree the eve of the holiday, decorated with mainly unbreakable ornaments. We aren't stupid women! We know how destructive our cats can be.

Sherlock, making sure the proceedings are appropriate.

The ornaments themselves are worthy of mention. I have an old, beat up set of beads that were on all of my parents trees until they gave them to me. There are probably more broken beads than there are whole ones, but I love them. We have little brooms because we are ever so witchy. How cute is that! We also always hang cinnamon sticks that are tied together. Why? Because there was one holiday when Melina was sad because we couldn't afford ornaments. I went to work at the coffee shop that day and tied together cinnamon sticks and brought them home for us to use. It made her really happy. We will always have cinnamon sticks on the tree.

Our holiday haul.

Next morning rolls around and we open our presents. This year, there was definitely a Sephora theme to the gifts. We each got a yummy perfume. We smell like ladies! And we ALWAYS get DVD sets of our favourite shows, setting us up for post holiday hunkers. This year I got season 1 of Angel, season 1 of Supernatural and Melina got all 4 seasons of Inspector Lewis. How amazing is that???

All four cats. Love!

We always throw all of the paper on the floor and leave it there for the day. The kids / cats play in it all day long. The puddins are the best part of the day. Sitting on the floor and playing with them and their new toys is fun and awesome. I love my life.

Banshee showing why decorations are non-breakable, and Sherlock legging it.

Big Tofurky dinner, coffee with soy nog, pumpkin pie. It was an awesome holiday.

Vanian, tired after a fun Yule.

Working Together, Best Friends Forever

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

So, as you know 'Moody and Sanguine' consist of two best friends. Denise is one, and I, Melina am the other. Denise makes the jewelry (she is a chainmail master) and I sew. We have had our Etsy store for a few years now, but this is the first time we have united the talents in one item.

This is something we hope to do more of in the near future. I love making bags and clutches, and Denise has recently designed a pattern and bauble for the closure of one of the prettiest things I have ever made. No, I'm not being vain, I just really love it. The colour, the shape and the close. Love.

A work in progress.

I hope to have more pretty bags like this listed soon. As well, I'd like to do more collaborations with Denise in the near future. Yay!

Coming soon...

Shirley You Jest!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Oh, no. I don't think this blog is going to be very proper.

Ok, I'll trust you this time, maybe. I don't want any part of anything untoward.

I wonder, would my mommas dare tell me a fib?

No, oh, I can't believe it. They would never.

How would you like me to pose?

I smile at you? Darn, got my eyes closed.

I've had it. I take my pumpkin-belly and leave you to it.

Well, I could end it on one of these. *Purrrrrr...*

Appreciation Nation

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

You know, we love what we do. Denise and I love creating and designing. We also take much pride in the quality of what we make. Nothing makes either of us happier than getting positive feedback.

Denise loves making unique and beautiful pieces, and she gets all shy with all the compliments she invariably gets.

I love when a customer notices and mentions that my item is well made. Not being a gentle flower, and I make my products to withstand my own use. And, I like the pretty as well.

We got some of the best feedback the other day from a happy customer who loves her new knitting needle roll. This totally made my week! How awesome. This is not the only reason we do what we do, but, man, this is friggin' awesome.

This was the appreciation photo we got from a customer. Yay!

Sister, Sister!

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

You know, having sisters is a good thing. I myself have one, fab, rock star of a sister. Her name is Melisa and she can kick your ass.

Denise has four sisters. Debbie, Donna, Darlene and Diane. Yeah, she can't mock the Melina - Melisa thing, not with five D's. Strangely enough, this didn't carry on in the grandkids, but maybe we can cross our fingers for the great grandkids, eh, Carol? ;)

So, with so many sister's and owning an accessories company, we do quite well with orders and or requests for various occasions.

This week we are prepping stuff for sister-Diane to pimp at her book club meeting. She is one of those natural salespeople and tends to talk us up a lot, which is a darn good thing. Making tons of earrings, and will have the extras going into what will hopefully be a busy season. Which earrings does such a sister think will do well?

These were actually not on the site any longer, but sister-Diane kept selling them when people saw hers so we thought What the Heck! Bring those babies back!

These have been around for awhile but still do really well.

All of our sisters are pretty great. We won't be returning any. :)
