Crazy Vacay Part Deux - Travel Log
Friday, November 9, 2012
A rented car for us always means one thing - driving to the Annapolis Valley! Love it there. It is where we always dream of having our house in the country, the end goal of all of our hard work. And trips to the Valley at this time of year mean something even more important: PUMPKIN PEOPLE!!!!
You may not know that this is my very favourite, bar none, thing in the whole entire world! I mean, an entire town (Kentville) gets together and puts these amazing pumpkin people down the main street. Every year there is a theme and this year seemed to be Pixar movies. We saw Shrek, Brave, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc. and tons more.
Come on! Are these not absolutely pure joy?? Everyone nearby should see these, and not just once. Every single year. No question. OMG I love them.
But on this day we did a little more. We also drove through the town of Canning, an absolutely beautiful place that has completely won us over. It has a great artistic community and the energy there is simply fantastic. Just past Canning is this beautiful spot.
I spoke in my previous post about how we visited Sackville, NB with the thought that we could live there someday. Here's the thing, as beautiful as everywhere else is, there is nowhere on the planet that gives us the feeling that the Valley does. There is a point on the highway on the way there that we come over a hill, and every time it is like I feel a huge exhale. It is the most amazing feeling: HOME. I have never had such an incredible sense of being exactly where I am supposed to be, and I know Melina feels the same way.
So, huge decision made. We have narrowed where we want to live down to an area (Canning) within the most perfect place on the planet to us (Valley).
Now the vacation time was not all play. We also spent some time coming up with a brand new product, and I think this is one that will definitely help to get us where we want to be. My idea, Melina's sewing.
* I used to be a cosmetician. I think about makeup a lot.

What Have We Been Up To?
Thursday, June 28, 2012
It's been awhile since we have updated on our lives. It's weird how when you are working towards a goal, things can be fluctuate. Sometimes the vision is so clear, other times it muddy at best. We are definitely in a clear phase. Crystal. Like we can see the light at the end of the tunnel and are running to get there. A lot of custom orders, especially for Melina. I invite people to bring on more. I want to see how much sewing she can do before her head explodes! She made a custom book cover, a bunch of cutlery rolls for a picnic basket, and is currently making a million pennant flags for a friend's wedding. I have come up with a few new designs and was called upon for a custom slave anklet. So lots of work which is always FUN! When it comes to actual fun, the kind that does not involve sewing machines and jump rings, we have definitely been a scoach dull. A few highlights include: 1) thanks once again to my amazing sister, Debbie, we got to see Cirque du Soleil again! It was beautiful and amazing awe inspiring. Literally took my breath away.
2) how great was The Avengers? Honestly, Joss Whedon is a god. For those who don't know, I dream of being a full-time writer, and he is one of my writing idols. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a superhero movie the highlight of which was the dialogue? GENIUS! (The following is a gratuitous photo of Chris Hemsworth, another great thing about the film. Just ... wow. Lovely.) 3)5 words - ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI! We have discovered the most wonderful thing in the world. Can you imagine anything better? Not only is it all you can eat, but it is really really good. We have been twice. The second time I think I ate more than I have ever eaten in one sitting. Felt so sick and it was AWESOME. :) Avocado and tempura sweet potato rolls. YUM! I guess we have squeezed in a little fun. We'll keep the updates coming on a more regular basis. And we will also be making fun a goal. ~ DenisePosted in Etsy, food by Melina and Denise | 0 comments
Fab Fabbie-ness
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
It is the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the full on madness of holiday hoopla. It's the aftermath. Getting your crap together, putting new treasures away, throwing the old crap out. Time to assess, weigh, and measure.
So, where is the wonderful in all this mess? Shopping for fabric of course! I've been shopping on Etsy all day and my eyes must look like googley-eyes. Think cookie monster, but not so blue.
So, here is a selection of fabrics that I will be getting my mitts on soon.
I shopped at Fabricpaloosa

Working Together, Best Friends Forever
Tuesday, November 8, 2011
So, as you know 'Moody and Sanguine' consist of two best friends. Denise is one, and I, Melina am the other. Denise makes the jewelry (she is a chainmail master) and I sew. We have had our Etsy store for a few years now, but this is the first time we have united the talents in one item.

This is something we hope to do more of in the near future. I love making bags and clutches, and Denise has recently designed a pattern and bauble for the closure of one of the prettiest things I have ever made. No, I'm not being vain, I just really love it. The colour, the shape and the close. Love.
A work in progress.
I hope to have more pretty bags like this listed soon. As well, I'd like to do more collaborations with Denise in the near future. Yay!
Coming soon...

Appreciation Nation
Wednesday, October 12, 2011

You know, we love what we do. Denise and I love creating and designing. We also take much pride in the quality of what we make. Nothing makes either of us happier than getting positive feedback.
Denise loves making unique and beautiful pieces, and she gets all shy with all the compliments she invariably gets.

I love when a customer notices and mentions that my item is well made. Not being a gentle flower, and I make my products to withstand my own use. And, I like the pretty as well.

We got some of the best feedback the other day from a happy customer who loves her new knitting needle roll. This totally made my week! How awesome. This is not the only reason we do what we do, but, man, this is friggin' awesome.
This was the appreciation photo we got from a customer. Yay!

Looking Back
Thursday, March 24, 2011
It was when standing in this spot by the ocean that Melina and I decided we NEEDED to live in the Valley, no ifs, ands or buts. This blog has been meant to chronicle our lives as we move towards that goal, so now I feel as though I should look back and think about how far we've come.
The Etsy shop is running smoothly, after much time and work. We are on the verge of our 100th sale through the shop! WOW! If ever there were a milestone to be celebrated it is that one. When we started the blog the shop was all shiny and new, and now we are successfully using it to get where we want to be.
The family has grown with the addition of the latest cats, Banshee and Sherlock. I never thought two more cats could be so much more expensive. Technically, it could be seen as a step backwards in our money-saving journey, but who can look at those little faces and think they are anything but a windfall?
(Note that Solstice boycotts photos with all the boys.)
Our debts are going down and our savings are going up. We clip coupons and troll the flyers and live as cheaply as humanly possible, though we don't stray to the non-vegan side. :) At this rate we are on our way. It will be awhile before we drive to our new house in our new to us car, but we are not giving up!

Tree Hugger's Lunch
Saturday, February 19, 2011
I have to say, I love my Cutie Cutlery Rolls. Not only do I love making them I also love that they are environmentally responsible. Why? You use your own cutlery from home, and it won't fall out of your lunch bag. Denise had lost a few of my knives from my last set of flatware that way.
I've yet to see a work lunchroom that isn't depressing. My rolls are so cheery that it is the one bright spot of decor in the whole room. Happy lunch.

Be good, make yourself happy. Hug yourself a tree.
