Pizza Night!

Monday, March 30, 2009

Yes, tonight was pizza night. Too pooped to cook, cranky and not wanting to try that new frozen vegan dinner at the grocery store, and not chinese again. I was very excited, can't lie.

Was way too excited to sit still the last hour at work, too eager to get home and call out for my pizza. Is there anything better? You don't have to do anything, except grate the soy cheese (we get the bake at home, piping hot and we add the cheese, bliss).

Can I really keep talking about pizza? Hell, yeah!

I've been craving pizza for a long while now, and Denise has flat out refused to have pizza for what seems like months and months. She even talked me out of making my really good crusts this weekend. True, I was tired, but I love my own crusts better than anyone else's. Totally part of her whole anti-pizza plan.
I think that's why she won't watch the 'Godfather' movies right now, always leads to lots of wonderful Italian food. See why I'm so bad at low carb eating?

Tonight, I wanted two pizzas, as I love taking leftovers to work the next day for lunch. So good. Pizza night was awesome, and now I'm too full to do more than type. Blup...

My New Modeling Career

Saturday, March 28, 2009

                                                     Photo of Hand

Well, who knew at this point in my life, I would find a exciting new line of work, full of glamour and acclaim? I know I didn't.

I'm a model. Ok, a hand and foot model. Sort of. In photos I took, and Denise, of really her jewellery. But I am modeling these to, I've been told, great effect. I think I've hit on something with this modeling idea.

This week I have been prepping my feet and hands with really nice OPI polish in 'You're a Doll.' Maybe I can get other work as a hand and foot model. I have been watching both 'Top Model' shows for years, I don't mind my hands and feet being nude. In the name of art, of course. When I meet people, I've been making a point to shake their hands, with my lovely prepped hands, to show them off. It really confused the Sobeys clerk last night, but you never know who has connections in the hand modeling world!

                                                           Photo of Foot

As soon as the weather is nice, I'll wear my cute flip flops and then will constantly strike poses with my feet, in hopes of getting work. Oh, maybe I can strike poses with my hands and well. Flourish the credit card, motion to the lip gloss. Shopping really will be work. Or me trying to get work. I think I'm getting confused now.

Time, I think, to go practice my Tyra walk with Solstice. "na na na, na nana....."

Waking Up and Trying to Work

Included in a Treasury!

The first time a stranger has included us in a Treasury!  It's very exciting and reassuring.  Like hitting another milestone along the way in this Etsy journey.  Also received payment today for our large reserved order.  So it is a great day already though I am barely awake.

We are both playing with new ideas for projects.  Especially Melina who is branching out from making only bags.  Stay tuned for more.

But if I've learned anything this week it is the degree to which I NEED to be able to leave my job at some point.  Being both a 98% vegan and Wiccan, it is so hard working under the thumb of people with whom I share no common values or goals.  To so many of them banking is the most fascinating and important thing in the world.  I just need to make money, it ends there.  And for some reason it could not be understood that I might find it morally icky as a veggie to participate in an initiative for which the prizes are steak house gift cards!  I never tell other people what to do and try hard not to be pushy but seriously, could they not let me distance myself from what I find is wrong??

Taking it in stride.  Am using the frustration to push me to work harder!  And using Melina's creativity to inspire me.

Balance, balance, balance

Sunday, March 22, 2009

I never thought this would be such an issue for me.  Always juggling the many things I am trying to do.  I know Melina deals with the same thing.  How do you do it?  I feel like I'm working 3 jobs, between actual work, the Etsy shop and writing.  When I try to think of giving up on one of them in favour of my sanity it makes me so depressed.  Unless it's my paying job - I think of quitting that often with a feeling of extreme joy!

The goal of living outside the city, of building my dream home in the country keeps me going.  It won't happen tomorrow but it will happen.  One of the only things I know for sure.

Ok, Twilight Tonight!!!

Friday, March 20, 2009

I am just too excited about 'Twilight' being released tonight at midnight. Too excited, I say.

We are really being so nerdy, as we are going to the closest store that is open tonight to get the, erm, 3 disc special edition DVD. I totally want to be there early, and, as I said to Denise, "I'll elbow 12 year-olds out of the way, I don't care, it's Edward." I, apparently, have no shame. I'll try to behave...

I bought the paperback so I could read it before the DVD release, and the hardcover hurts when it falls on your face.

And, thrilled that 'New Moon' is being filmed now, with the same Jacob. Still irked that they changed the director, but I guess you can't have everything.
And, like I needed 'Twilight' invading more of my life, a co-worker on my team just became as obsessed as I am. We giggle and have in depth discussions about Edward and the books in general. So now I have to try to not procrastinate at work as well!!! Geez.

Ok, so I will try to not go on about 'Twilight' anymore, but at least I know I'm not alone?!?

Etsy Team

Thursday, March 19, 2009

In our wanderings through the ETSY world we've come to know a great bunch of people on the Earthpath Artisans Street Team.  This is a a fantastic group of people of different faiths but all nature based religions.  More than that they chat and encourage each other every day.  I look forward to getting to know them better!

Melina and I thought it would be nice to show the work of just a few of these talented folks.

                                             Liz Staley

These are just a few of the people but I  encourage everyone to search 'EAST Team' to find the wonderful creations by this group.  You will not be disappointed!

Wow, What a Month!

Monday, March 16, 2009

earrings

Really can't believe it's been about a month since we started listing on Etsy, in our cute little store. We have come so far, and learned so much.

We are still working on the photos (do you ever stop?), and they have improved. In fact, we are currently planning on building a massive 3 foot by 3 foot light box. Should be interesting. Good thing we're so close to Piercey's. Might do a smaller 1 1/2 foot by 1 1/2 foot one too. That sounds so industrious. Hmmmmm.

I love the feedback on all the hard work we've put in. Denise's designs are just amazing, and she's just getting better and better. I love it. I see my sewing improving and I've starting designing things on my own. This is so what we want to do all the time.

Right now, I'm the book keeper. Chances of Denise fighting me for that title are slim to none. That's ok, she is the master marketer (marketeer?) and promotion. Just try to stand still for two seconds next to her and not get a business card. She is tireless twitterer and blogger (ususally) and chatterer.

We are working on new things to bring to the store. Exciting things are coming, and who knows what we are going to learn next. Can't wait.

That's Right, We're Working Out

Sunday, March 15, 2009

That's not us but I couldn't resist!

I've said it before and I'll say it again; things are really busy.  One of the things that fell through the cracks was working out.  UGH!  Who has the time, right?  Also, I (Denise) am a late in the day worker-outer whereas Melina is an early in the day one, and if we are trying to get work done together that is not good.

Starting today we decided to get up early and workout before going to work.  Can you imagine!?!  This is insane!  I had warned Melina that I would probably not like her very much when she woke me up and that was the case.  In fact, half way through the step DVD I thought that this was one of the silliest ideas I ever had, and honestly, what a crazy time for Melina to decide to listen to me!  Good news is that I survived.  I think I'm taking tomorrow off though.  Don't want to shock my system.

In looking for a fun workout pic I Googled '20 Minute Workout' images.  Remember that show?  Well, judging by the images I was too young to really 'get it' because apparently it was pornographic!  The photo above is the only decent one I could find!

Day of Errands

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Ok, today was the day that I both love and dread. Errand day.

Denise hates this day and would love to pretend that it was unnecessary , but would be the first to be unhappy with no food and clean clothes. I love it because I love to buy and eat food. I hate it because I want to sew and work on new bag ideas.  Never mind that this month was to be a creative month, with me and a friend doing a clothes pattern, which I still haven't got. Blah.

So, out we went, to do errands on foot. Had a good day despite the much walking with heavy flour and whatnot. The most brilliant part was finding clip on lights!!! Took some super-fine photos, I must say myself. Yay!

I'll put a example of some bitchin' photos (for me) here, and above it a photo of the street we walk on to get the good food.

Busy Beyond Belief

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

How can I describe how busy we've been?  Melina has been cutting and cutting and cutting some more, trying to get some more bags done.  Remember that big order we mentioned?  Well, it looks like it's going to go through which means she needs to make 6 each of these:

And I have to make a dozen of these:

and another 12 pieces of jewelry that have not been decided upon.  It is not 100% confirmed but I would say it's at least 99.  We have until December to get it done so as long as carpal tunnel doesn't set in...

Other than that we have very little to report.  Got to work to pay the bills, come home and work to build the shop.  I can't believe how happy I am to be this busy.  Truly, this is what I want to do.

The most surprising thing  about Etsy for us is the degree to which it is a community.  The support between stores is amazing, the help that is offered and the promotion that happens amongst the different craftspeople.  It's an international site that has this amazing small town feel.  Loving it!

New Listings

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Two new listings today, one of  which I think is especially fantastic.

Totally reversible and so cute.  She's happy with it, so much so she is now walking around and talking like a supervillain.

As the shop fills up and more potential orders develop I am sooooooo positive about the future!

Food and Shoes

Friday, March 6, 2009

Yes, that's right, I'm talking about some of my favorite things today.

I'll start with food. It would be a grim world without it... and we'd be dead, so that would suck too. I love to eat, and luckily love to cook as well. I'm always in a good mood when it's grocery-shopping-day. And today is, you guessed it, time to go to the g store. That's what we call it in our house. We are there almost everyday, but do one 'big' shop a week. Making my list fills me with glee. I do have a small dry board on the fridge, so I can jot down things as I run out or get low on something. This has improved my running of the kitchen greatly.

I love when I have the time and money to try a new recipe. We love the fat free vegan site. And I've been looking for a new vegan cookbook.

A total slave to my cravings, I'll be minding my own business and boom, I NEED pizza for supper and nothing else will do.

As for shoes, I always am looking and everyone's (mostly ladies) shoes and bags.  I love them so much, sometimes it feels much like a full body craving when there are a pair of shoes or bag I want. Very much like candy.

What is it with our love of shoes? I sure know I'm not alone here. Even some girl you hardly know, chances are you can get into an involved conversation about shoes off the cuff. I know I can.

So thrilled, as we when shopping yesterday and each bought two pairs of shoes. Bliss. Of course I go two pairs of sneakers (one pair is SILVER, how cool is that?),  and Denise got pretty lady shoes.

It is always a challenge for us to find nice shoes, as we don't wear leather. So, they tend to be cheap, which works for me, burt also we want the cute. Thus, challenge. Hence, joy at having bought two pairs! Yay!

Now go hug your shoes.

Plaincraft

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Have you guys been to plaincraft.com?  Such a great free way to try and get more traffic to your shop.  And it appeals to my competitive side because of the vote system.  To be clear, Denise = competitive, Melina = not so much.  Still, even she think it's fun.  Check it out!  And if you want to search for Moody and Sanguine stuff and vote that's cool too.  : )

We Like CATS!

Monday, March 2, 2009

We were talking about what to write in our blog today and as there is nothing but work and jewellery making and sewing going on we were stumped.  Melina said, "Talk about cabbage!  They won't see it coming!"  That seemed like a good idea for a sec, but my thoughts on the subject are pretty limited.  But you know what I can easily write lots about?  CATS!!

These are our cats, Solstice and Vanian.

Solstice is the beautiful black lady and Vanian is the macho white boy.

And I have to admit something.  I know it's wrong.  Cats hate this.  But is there anything cuter than cat in a costume???

Check out the whole shop.  So adorable!
